Get a load of this?! Evangelising an online version of a person?

G'day...this story on the ABC news site left me amused, but a tiny bit disturbed too.

If you've heard of "2nd Life," the online 'world' where people can interact in a

real-time sort of graphical-communication world, some believers are suggesting

a new ministry. I won't spoil it... what do you reckon of this?

What would a virtual Jesus do, Jesuit magazine asks

The souls in the Second Life virtual Internet world may need saving too, an influential Jesuit magazine says.

An article set to appear in the Italian La Civilta Cattolica August 4-18 edition talks of the popular virtual reality site as a potential place to provide spiritual needs.

"Essentially, the digital world can also be considered a 'mission world'," the magazine said.
"If there are people who express themselves through Second Life metaphors, and some of them also express needs of a spiritual order, then maybe we should not ignore the possibility of responding to that demand."

Second Life allows players to create animated proxies - called avatars - that live in a 3D virtual world. The article asks whether "it is possible that the avatars also live with a form of collective prayer?"
